Content Marketing vs. Google Ads – Advantages
While we REALLY feel strongly that content marketing by blogging is the best way to reach clients and build organic search results, we have seen that Google adwords has been a great tool for many real estate websites to bring in additional clients.
Google ads have several key advantages over content marketing for realtors.
- Save time
The first advantage of Google ads over blogging or other content marketing is that you save a lot of time. You can hire RealtyCandy or someone else to run your Google pay-per-click or PPC campaign and spend about 1-2 hours getting us all setup with some information about your market.
Then you can go about your day running your real estate business and handle the leads you receive. You don’t have to spend the 1-2 hours per blog post to write a nice real estate related blog post, load some images, proof-read and all of the other things that it takes to make a great blog post, or keep up with all of your social media networks.
It seems like ease and saving time should be in the same category. But I like to think of it like this. If my air conditioner goes out on my car and it needs to be fixed and my lawn needs to be mowed, I would rather mow the lawn. It is easier.
When you are doing content marketing you have to be comfortable writing. You need fresh ideas for your blog posts. Google hates duplicate content, so you are always on the make for some fresh content.

Ok. I think we have all been there. You build a new WordPress website for your real estate business, setup IDX Broker for searches, load your logos, images, and photos. Some realtors spend a lot of time trying to convince prospective buyers that buying and owning is much better than renting. When you run a PPC campaign to build your real estate business you are really renting. You are paying Google some money each month in exchange for some ads. When you stop paying for the ads, you stop getting leads or even exposure.
When you are using content marketing your content becomes an asset that is a valuable part of your business. We have some clients who are prolific bloggers and get leads by bringing leads to their site and then getting them to the IDX Broker pages where the visitors signup for more information.
Quality of Leads
When you use content marketing you are getting leads from long-tail search terms. We have seen this here at RealtyCandy. When we get leads from our blog posts, they tend to come to our site because we have something they do want.
Sometimes with Google ads, the leads may not be as targeted as they should be. Sometimes people just click to your site out of curiosity. These leads tend not to be as high quality as the leads you get from blogs and other content marketing.
When we look at buying Google ads for a client campaign. We see that in many markets the price per click is between $8-$12. If you run an add with 3 click-throughs per day, you are going to end up spending $1000 per month just for the ads. If you want 10 clicks a day, you are looking at about $3000 per month. That will lead to a lot of leads, but not everyone is going to be a buyer or a seller who decides to do business with you.
While blogging and social media content marketing has no out-of-pocket costs, Google ads has some considerable direct costs.
